NYC Blames Bloomberg For Delay And Over-Budget Of 911 System Overhaul

bloA Department of Investigation probe is finding that New York City’s effort to modernize its 911 system is years behind schedule and $700 million over budget.

The probe released Friday lays the blame at the feet of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration.

It contends that Bloomberg, who left office in 2013, and his team did not ensure that the police and fire departments and other agencies coordinated efforts.

The probe also says that private contractor costs ballooned out of control and that the Bloomberg administration shielded the public from how the project was going.

The overall cost of the project now exceeds $2 billion. And one of the 911 call centers has not yet become operational.

Former members of the Bloomberg administration dispute the findings.
