NY Health Exchange Hits 2M Enrollees

heaMore than 2 million New Yorkers have enrolled in health insurance through the state’s health plan marketplace since it began more than a year ago.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the statistics Wednesday. He says 89 percent of those who signed up had no insurance before they enrolled.

The governor says the 2 million benchmark is a “tremendous milestone” for the state’s system and for efforts to provide affordable care to all residents of the state.

According to the state, nearly 1.5 million of the 2 million people enrolled in Medicaid. More than 500,000 chose a private plan.

The current enrollment period ends on Feb. 15.

The state’s health marketplace is known as the NY State of Health. It first opened in Oct. 2013.
