The spiritual leader of the Yachad party, HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita, responded to a question regarding one donating one’s ma’aser money to the party, Kikar Shabbos reports. The rav reportedly told his talmid that since the party’s entire agenda is “L’Shem Shomayim”, he made donate his tzedaka money if he wishes to do so.
The rav added that because it is a new party that lacks funding, and requires financial assistance to succeed, in this case it is permissible.
Yishai’s party does not receive election funding as his funding went to Shas since he broke off and launched the new party alone. Hence the need for raising money to launch even the most modest of election campaigns.
