A week after New York’s first big snowstorm of the season, the city is bracing for another wintry hit: Snow turning to sleet and ice on roads.
National Weather Service meteorologist John Murray says the first flakes should start falling sometime Sunday evening. Accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are forecast for Monday in the city, and slightly more in the northern suburbs.
The heaviest snow is expected overnight, with winds of up to 15 mph. Then, around 4 a.m. Monday, the fluffy stuff is expected to turn to sleet, freezing rain and up to a quarter of an inch of ice in the New York City area.
And that’s the reason the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning. Murray said roads will be very treacherous.
