Hamas has issued harsh statements against Egypt after a Cairo court ruled Hamas’ military wing will be added to that country’s terror list. Hamas stated that as a result, it will no longer accept the Egyptians as negotiators acting as a go-between with Israel.
According to AP, Hamas took part in the most recent attack against Egyptian forces in Sinai, an attack that involved ISIS as well. At least 27 persons were killed in that attack and despite the fact that ISIS claimed responsibility, Hamas played a role in the assault, Egyptian officials are quoted saying. Egyptian officials add that weapons smuggled by Hamas to Sinai are used by Islamic fighters against Egyptian forces and to destabilize the ruling government in Cairo. Since the fall of President Morsi, Egypt has been destroying terror tunnels to Gaza to cut of the Hamas supply line.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zohari said Hamas rejects the court decision which is viewed as being “politically motivated and serves the occupation”.
