Tomorrow, the Committee on Cultural Affairs will hear a pre-considered resolution commemorating the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps on January 27th, 2015.
There are approximately 73,000 Holocaust survivors living in and around New York City, many of whom were liberated from Auschwitz-Birkenau. Some of these survivors will be on hand to mark this event and to tell their stories.
In light of the recent attacks in Paris, this resolution also provides a particularly apt opportunity to affirm the commitment to protecting human dignity and that we must not allow anyone to be persecuted for their race, religion or political views.
