Once again Israel’s Arab sector is taking to the streets. Following the burial of a Rahat resident killed last week and the funeral on Monday night the eve of 29 Teves, dozens of Rahat youths hurled burning tires and stones at the Rahat police station. There were also protests in Jerusalem and Haifa on Monday evening.
Ibrahim a-Zidani was killed during violent protests last week. Israel Police officials on Monday announced an official probe has been launched. Zidani was shot by a policeman.
The Israel Arab Monitoring Committee has declared a general strike to be observed on Tuesday in protest over the killing. President Reuven Rivlin has turned to community leaders to call for calm and to prevent widespread disturbances.
