Piron: Stern & I Represent Classic Religious Zionism

pironFormer Education Minister (Yesh Atid) Shai Piron spoke with Galei Yisrael Radio on Monday morning 28 Teves. He spoke of the “failure” in the Bayit Yehudi primaries, citing they have non-religious candidates on board along with political liberals. “It appears to me that Bayit Yehudi tried to do it but simply failed. There was a thought that we could all be together, but it did not work” stated Piron.

Piron added the new Bayit Yehudi that encompasses both religious and non-religious candidates does not address issues of being religious and non-religious but prefers to focus on issues of Eretz Yisrael and this makes the union possible.

Piron added that he and Elazar Stern, who just announced he is moving to Yesh Atid, represent “classis religious Zionism”.

“We are now heading to become the centrist religious opposition. Religious individuals, normative people, seeking to probe questions of religion and state in depth, those wishing to address educational issues and not remain limited to a sectoral vision, those wishing to address the question of IDF service, those who understand that conversion is a national issue. We are also people that want Rabbi Stav as Chief Rabbi. Stern and I are among the few that did not stutter on this matter, among the few who did not stutter along the way for we represent classic religious Zionism”.

  1. One doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Rabbi Shai Piron (shlit”a!!) claims that Bayit Yehudi shouldn’t have non-religious people on its roster, and this is a sign of “failure” (at least of the primary party elections). But it’s OK for “religious” folk such as Elazar Stern and himself to be members of Yesh Atid, headed by Yair Lapid, whom we all know holds Torah and Mitzvos dear to his heart. At least Yesh Atid is not two-faced about it; it doesn’t pretend to uphold and care about Yiddishkeit.

Excellent comment. I agree with you completely. Piron is a fool and Stern wants transportation on Shabbat…why he wears a kipa is beyond me..

For Lapid to have 3 members of his party with kippot is a feather in his cap.
