Galant Hints IAF Attack in Syria May have Been Tied to Elections

iafnIn a statement that has angered many colleagues, Yoav Galant told Channel 2 News on Sunday evening 27 Teves that the attack attributed to Israel that killed Jihad Mughniyeh and other Hizbullah terrorists may have been timed with consideration to the upcoming national elections.

Galant, who is an IDF major-general in the reserves, this week announced he is joining Moshe Kahlon’s Kulanu party. In his first statement to the media, he hinted that it is possible the attack was ordered to coincide with upcoming elections for the 20th Knesset.

He explained that security demands compel such actions, which are carried out in a serious and responsible fashion. That said he explained, “We can learn from past events that at times, one cannot say the timing of a mission is totally unconnected to elections”.

He changed his tone somewhat when speaking to Yediot Achronot after Channel 2. “There are incident and there are elections but would not suspect the two are in anyway related. I support striking terrorists at any time”.

“The Zionist Camp”, Yitzchak Herzog and Tzipi Livni responded. They stated that they rely totally on the IDF Chief of Staff and matters of national security are not to be reduced to electioneering. “We feel the IDF Chief of Staff does what is necessary, evening during election time and we, like all other citizens, rely on the Chief of Staff and IDF”.

  1. The IDF didn’t confirm the attack therefore I think it’s highly Iresponsible for him to make any assumptions at this moment.
The total opposite by him making any statements at this moment it’s only for political gain because of the election.

  2. Aha. So what Galant is saying, is that it would of been better for Bibi to hold off the strike, let inoccent Jewish men/women/children get blown to bits, just that it shouldn’t look like he is doing it to win votes before an election?! This Galant guy is a dangerous moron! If Kahlon had any morals, he would ban Galant from ever joining his Party. He is not fit for any public office.
