Tensions are running high in northern Israeli communities following a reported bombing attack in Syria on Sunday 27 Teves that foreign media sources are attributing to Israel. According to the reports, among the terrorists killed in the aerial attack was Jihad Mughniyeh. He was a son of Imad Mughniyeh, the deputy Hizbullah community who was killed in February 2008, an attack that was also attributed to Israel.
One of the questions being asked is if Hizbullah will retaliate. The military experts in Israel tell the media that Hizbullah in uninterested in engaging Israel in a military conflict at this time.
Military experts told the media that Hizbullah is working hard to ensure the future of Syrian leader President Bashar al-Assad, for this serves the combined Hizbullah/Iranian agenda. However, they do not believe the terrorist commander will launch a cross-border offensive.
Speaking to Kol Chai Radio on Sunday evening 27 Teves, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon asked how the younger commander was killed in Syria when according to Hizbullah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, none of his people are in Syria. Ya’alon was not willing to discuss the media reports pointing to Israel, but stated Israel is in total control of the northern border and the situation is always being monitored appropriately.
Senior state officials call on northern residents and visitors to continue with their daily routines and schedules.
