MK (Bayit Yehudi) Yael Shaked has emerged the winner in her party’s primaries. She landed the first slot in the election, which places here in the third position on the election ticket, behind party leader Naftali Bennett and Tekuma faction leader Uri Ariel. Ariel’s second slot is guaranteed as per an agreement between Tekuma and Bayit Yehudi.
Many were taken by surprise to see Shaked last week arrive in Yavniel, questioning what might she be doing in the Breslov community. Shas officials were especially concerned, since there are voters in Yavne which they do not wish to see shift to Bayit Yehudi.
It has been learned that Shaked was not on a political mission, at least not in the direct sense of the word, but she was set to meet with Rav Moshe Shick to consult with him about a revolutionary idea launch an organization that would be dedicated to assisting chareidi youths who step off the derech. Such an effort does show that Bayit Yehudi is interested in assisting youths in the chareidi sector as well as the dati leumi community.

It would make sense that Bayit Yehudi would want to encourage youths leaving the hareidi community. So that doesn’t explain much.
Her name is Ayelet Shaked.
Have you forgotten who headed the knesset committee that legislated drafting yeshiva bochurim into the army? Yup, she sure cares about chareidi youth . . .
Dear all
The issue of non army service needs to be solved and the last knesset was simply trying to solve it as best as possible so please Dan lechaf Zechut. Bayit yehudi and Ha-am Itanu are 2 parties that have a positive message and are literally spreading Jewish Unity which is the key to redemption.
Elie Yishai has done the army for goodness sake. Chief rabbi Lau is an army officer. Chabad all do the army.
The bottom line is this as im sure most of you would agree (even Moshe Gafni said it and Rabbi Lazer Brody – unless youre moser nefesh and properly studying full time you need to do army service or national service at some point. can we at least agree on that?
Agreed, EFRAIM..
Any positive move by any MK is given a negative spin since ISRAELI POLITICS reeks & is publicized to cause rift & machlokes.
To #4 & 5: The IDF admits that nearly 49% of the draft-age youth are NOT drafted. Of these, the IDF says 3% are not drafted for “religious reasons.” So it would seem that any “problems” lay with the non-religious reasons.
BTW, plenty of chareidim do the army. The issue is yeshiva bochurim. That was all I meant in my original posting. Particularly YWN’s statement that “that Bayit Yehudi is interested in assisting youths in the chareidi sector.” This non-religious woman is going to decide what chareidi yeshiva boys ought to be doing? And any remarks made by me or anyone else is deemed lacking in achdus (or “achdut”) or causing machlokes? Why don’t we just throw away Torah and Mitzvos (ח”ו) and join the seculars, creating a great deal of “achdut” and avoiding machlokes?
This question — like all other major issues — is up to the gedolei Torah to decide; not you or me, or even MK Moshe Gafni. Or even Ayelet Shaked.
American yerushalmi – you are correct the non religious dodgers of course need a solution.
But of course I agree no-body wants to drag yeshiva bochrim out of learning and this was not the intention. My understanding of the legislation is that firstly it allowed all students to keep learning till age 22, correct?
Her name is Ayelet Shaked and I believe that the rabbi’s name is Rav Eliezer Shlomo Schick Shlit”a, although perhaps there is a lesser-known Rav Moshe Schick as well whom she met. Please clarify.
