Yesterday, Assemblyman Dov Hikind and Councilman David G. Greenfield had a rare joint tour of Boro Park’s most congested streets with NYC Department of Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia in a united push to resolve morning sanitation pick-ups that conflict with school bus pick ups. Councilman Greenfield has been pushing this issues since he has been elected to office and Assemblyman Hikind made the issue a key part of his re-election platform.
“Morning garbage pick-ups in Boro Park make a difficult situation worse,” said Hikind. “Our community is genuinely unique in terms of this issue. Commissioner Garcia saw for herself how many buses our yeshivas are running and the vast amount of children who are walking to school. The Councilman and I are grateful to the Commissioner for coming here personally. We’re all working together to resolve our community’s issues and I’m very optimistic that we’ll see a historic resolution to the sanitation-school bus issue, which will help restore everyone’s sanity during our busy morning hours.”
“We need all hands on deck to solve one of the most difficult quality-of-life problems that our community has – morning traffic jams. I am pleased to work with Sanitation Commissioner Garcia, Assemblyman Hikind and Senator Felder on a plan to improve traffic flow in Boro Park. We discussed many ideas with the Commissioner, including my proposal for through-streets: major streets in the community that would be guaranteed not to have any garbage trucks on them during rush hour,” said Councilman Greenfield. “I am also grateful to Mayor de Blasio for his personal commitment to resolving this problem.”
Assemblyman Hikind and Councilman Greenfield were also joined by Community Board 12 Chairman Yidel Perlstein and District Manager Barry Spitzer as well as Hikind staffer Chesky Klien and Greenfield staffer Yidel Schonfeld.
In a further sign that the relationship between Assemblyman Hikind and Councilman Greenfield was improving, the Assemblyman who had blocked Greenfield from seeing his tweets on Twitter, unblocked Councilman Greenfield from his twitter feed and even tweeted a complimentary tweet at Greenfield. Assemblyman Hikind can be followed @HikindDov on Twitter. Councilman Greenfield can be followed @NYCGreenfield.

Moshiach must be coming
Best solution, stop having school buses Stop 4 times on EACH BLOCK, Sanitation does pick up twice a week and one of those days is Shabbos, so the problem for the other days is obviously NOT the trucks, Sanit. is the scapegoat.
Wow, who would of ever thought that 2 people can make Shalom, over a piece of garbage? We are truly living in strange times.
all the avenues in boro park should be changed to ONE WAY like 13 and 14 avenues.
How about eliminating unnecessary traffic lights?
to #2: Boy, are you myopic! Maybe you have garbage pickup on Shabbos, but my block has it on Monday and Thursday. The sanitation trucks are out there 6 days a week! Also, small children do need to be picked up in front of their houses. A mother with several children needing bus pickups cannot be running all over in the mornings, which are already stressful enough!
Ma nishma i don’t know about your block but on my block no pick up is Shabbos and yes its crazy to have garbage pick up in the morning when you want your kids should come and go to school safely even without the bus problem

Here we go with some more Boro Park style English, clearly the result of a top rate educational system.
Did I read this right??
“Wow, who would of ever thought”….
When I went to school, it was “who would HAVE”…
It’s OK, I understand Yidbonix.

Your user name is sooo appropriate to your nature – “Not getting involved says”
I’ve seen your comments in the past.. all you think you know how to do is put out a line or two that show how much you care for another fellow Yid. Instead of applauding these 2 great Askanim for working so tirelessly on our/YOUR behalf – you sit back and do nothing positive to society but commenting on YWN. Wow what a hero you are…! (don’t keep it up)
Maybe now they can work as a team to solve the problem of double parking speeding, flying through stop signs, constant horn honking, flashing of high beams for no reason, not yielding the school buses, and then maybe Boro Park will be a little safer.
