Feds Want Recordings Of New Jersey Bridge Scandal Testimony

chrisA legislative committee investigating traffic lane closures at one of the world’s busiest bridges has been subpoenaed again — this time for video and audio recordings of testimony from a former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey official.

The federal subpoena was obtained Thursday by The Associated Press. It requests recordings of Bill Baroni’s testimony before the New Jersey Assembly’s transportation committee in November 2013. It also seeks records the select committee has obtained.

The committee also was subpoenaed last April.

Baroni was appointed by Republican Gov. Chris Christie. He testified the George Washington Bridge lane closures were part of a traffic study. Documents released a year ago suggest they were politically motivated. Christie has denied any knowledge of that.

Baroni hasn’t responded to a request for comment. The U.S. attorney’s office has declined to comment.
