Following is an update on the condition of victims from rocket attacks throughout southern Israel since the start of Operation Cast Lead on Shabbos.
SOROKA MEDICAL CENTER – BEERSHEVA
IDF soldier Yossi Chai Tzion remains in grave condition as a result of the Monday night mortar shell attack at Nachal Oz. One soldier was killed in that attack. Yossi was transported to the trauma center by chopper. Doctors and the trauma team managed to save his life but he remains in grave condition.
Shuki, Yossi’s father, waits at his side in the intensive care unit. He explains the IDF officers arrived at his home at midnight, explaining to him that he was seriously injured in an attack at Nachal Oz. Yossi was home Shabbos but was called back to his unit early. We already lost my brother a number of years ago in the Lebanon War. Yossi is named that brother. To endure this now, a second time, is extremely difficult. I think the air force should finish them up, these animals. We should not risking putting one soldier in Gaza; wipe them out by the air.
Two other victims from attacks in the Gaza-belt area on Shabbos are in light condition and there are a number of hysteria victims receiving treatment.
KAPLAN HOSPITAL – RECHOVOT
Three victims from the Monday night Katyusha attack in Ashdod were transported to Kaplan. Two are reported in serious condition and one light. Two of the victims are mother and daughter, Galena Silverman and her daughter Marina. Marina is in light condition.
Marina, 12, explains she and her mom went to walk in the park and they heard the siren. They were running to the bus stop for shelter but there did not make it in time. Marina was injured by shrapnel in her leg but Galena was seriously injured by shrapnel in her abdomen. Marina explains she is trying to think of good things to remain optimistic.
