Inspectors of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Chief Rabbinate Kashrus Enforcement Unit last week foiled six attempts to smuggle a total of 90 tons of produce from PA (Palestinian Authority) areas into “Israel proper”.
Officials point out that during shmitah year there are more attempts to smuggle produce into Israel than during the other six years due to the increased demand as those wishing to use produce that is not from heter mechira or otzar beis din will rely in party on produce from PA areas along with imports from abroad.
