Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Thursday stated an IDF operation in Gaza is likely to complicate Gilad Shalit’s situation. He stated at present, Shalit is in good condition and is not being maltreated, but a military operation in Gaza would change this.
The senior Egyptian official warned Israel and Hamas that the current situation may escalate out of control, also criticizing Iran for Tehran’s involvement in regional affairs.
The foreign minister made his remarks during the meeting with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni who traveled to Egypt in response to an invitation from Mubarak, who is seeking to prevent and Israeli military operation in Gaza.
Livni made her position clear, explaining she did not travel to Egypt to obtain Cairo’s approval for a military strike, adding the current intolerable situation may not be permitted to continue.
