Speaker John Boehner has invited President Barack Obama to deliver the State of the Union speech on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
The House Republican leader sent a letter to Obama on Friday formally inviting him to deliver the prime-time speech.
Obama will face an all-Republican Congress next month as the GOP takes charge of both the House and Senate for the final two years of the presidency.

For the last century, presidents have always delivered the “State of the Union” in person (prior to that it was done by letter and read out loud). For the last generation, starting with Reagan, a great deal of showmanship has gone into it. This isn’t actually a matter of discretion on anyone’s part.
makes you wonder which side of the aisle bonehead is on
fyi, i know its protocol to “invite the president” however it also is protocol to ask congress before granting amnesty, and normalizing relations with a country
