The NYPD says two officers were assaulted by protesters on the Brooklyn Bridge when they tried to arrest a man who was attempting to toss a garbage can onto police officers below.
It happened Saturday night after tens of thousands of people marched up Fifth Avenue to protest killings by police officers.
One contingent then marched across the bridge, blocking traffic for about an hour.
Police say the officers were treated for bumps and bruises, including a broken nose. Police say that a backpack full of hammers and a mask was found on the bridge.
Police say a protester was arrested for disorderly conduct in a separate incident.
Sources tell YWN that the NYPD Joint Fugitive Task Force arrested one person at his Brooklyn house for assaulting 2 NYPD Lieutenants. No official word has been released by the NYPD on the arrest.
