Thousands of protesters around the country took to the streets over Shabbos to decry what they considered police brutality — one such marched through Crown Heights.
Demonstrators effectively shut down streets and bridges in New York City, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis and Washington, DC where Rev. Al Sharpton led the protest.
In Manhattan, an estimated 25,000 demonstrators gathered in Washington Square Park for a 2 p.m. march to One Police Plaza outside the NYPD headquarters, according to CBS2.
They held signs and chanted “No Justice, No Peace – no racist police” expressing outrage over the grand jury decisions not to indict the police officers involved in the Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases, the station reported.
Garner died in July after police officers attempted to arrest him in Staten Island and Brown was fatally shot by police in Ferguson, Missouri. Both officers weren’t charged.
The march in New York City spilled into other boroughs over the course of the day with thousands of marchers walking over the Brooklyn Bridge.
At around 9 pm, one such march passed by Lubavitch Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway, where a black man was shot to death by police after stabbing a Yeshiva student. They chanted “Shut it down!”
Heavy police presence was noted near the large synagogue. The entrance doors, through which 50-year-old African American Calvin Peters entered wielding a knife on Tuesday, were closed.
Crown Heights residents were advised to stay in doors to avoid further confrontation, but one Yeshiva student told COLlive.com of a brief conversation he held with a protester outside 770.
According to him, the black man told him: “You guys are protected. That’s money over there.”
The bochur told him, “You heard what happened here last week?”
“Yes,” the person replied, “He was a brother and we are dealing with a lot of racism now.”

Al Sharpton was in Sears. He was there to protest the fact that most all of the washing machines were
white.
So the clerk called the store
manager, who asked, “What’s the problem here, Reverend?
Sharpton pointed at the machines and
loudly bemoaned the fact that most of them were white.
The manager replied, “Well, Reverend,
it’s true that most of the washing machines are white, but if you’ll open the
lids, you’ll see that all the agitators are black.”
Just await 1st day Rosh haShono 2032, and they shall be having the West Indian Labor Day parade outside 770 on Labor Day Rosh haShono.
It’s ludicrous that their platform is the championing of two criminals. Michael Brown robbed a store, knocked its owner down with his forceful punch. He then attacked/challenged the policeman Wilson who then took him out. Whether or not the shooting was necessary or not is not so much the point although he is gone, rather, he challenged a cop which is a violation in itself! Why are these protesters chamioning a criminal? Eric Garner, the said husband of Esav Garner, himself had only 31 prior arrests! He don’t seem like no angel to me! Rev. Al owes millions in taxes and he’s the parade’s leader. It doesn’t seem like a noble cquse to me!
Racism?r u kidding.?
Are you telling me that those animals are mad that the mental black was shot?!?!at first I thought there was a protest that an innocent yeshiva boy got stabbed but no it’s those low lives again! This is not called racism this is called IDIOTS GETTING WHAT THEY DESERVE! You fight police you try to kill innocent people YOU SHOULD DIE! Their curious why it keeps happening to blacks I’ll tell you why cause they are wild aggressive beasts who love to get themselves into trouble and then complain when the get killed
