The gemara says “ One who runs away from honor, honor follows him”.
This was the case yesterday at the world famous Lederman’s shul in Bnei Brak. The shul, which has become synonymous with Gedolei Hador, is where many children are brought into Bris Milah, on the lap of Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlit”a. What made yesterday’s bris different, was the surprise visit of Maran Rosh Hayeshiva, Rav Aharon Leib shlit”a, to wish mazel tov to the baby’s father immediately after the bris.
The two Gedolei Hador took time from their busy schedules, to partake in this boy’s simcha, and to wish his father much blessing.
Who is this baby’s father, and what made him deserving of such an honor? Rabbi Elchonon Weisbord, the quiet, unassuming executive director of the nation’s second largest network of kollelim,Yissochor B’Ohalecha’ has undertaken, close to a decade ago, a project which revolutionized the Torah world in Eretz Yisroel. Recognizing the need for an organized kollel system across Eretz Yisroel, he formed groups in cities with developing Torah communities, where an accomplished Rosh Kollel would lead them in learning, while the financial operations would be administered by an executive office.
Under the guidance of Maran Rosh Hayeshiva, he began organizing new kollelim, and sometimes just absorbing existing kollelim, whose Roshei Kollel were unable to both learn and support the kollel simultaneously. Over the years, Yissachor B’Oholecha has developed into the country’s premier kollel network, with many fine Talmidei Chachomim opting out of the commute to other cities, and instead remaining close to home and teaching the next generation of avreichim.
Free from financial burden, this new cadre of Roshei Kollel , are able to focus on preparing shiurim, writing seforim, and guiding their students and families in the Torah’s ways. This wonderful phenomenon, is only possible, because the financial burden rests squarely on the shoulders of an unassuming yet responsible admistration, which emphasizes diligence as its mantra to the world. While refusing to be called Rosh Kollel, Rabbi Weisbord divides his time between traveling overseas to visit the system’s supporters, and making his circuitous route across Eretz Yisroel, making spot checks, surprise visits, to each kollel, ensuring that they are operating smoothly, and at top capacity, guaranteeing his supporters the zechus of full sedarim.
This has not gone unnoticed by the nation’s leading Roshei Yeshivos, who encourage their best students to continue their higher studies at Yissochor B’Oholecha. Rabbi Weisbord enjoys a special relationship with both Gedolei Hador, who follow his operations closely, offering guidance to his efforts and blessings for his endeavors.
More than once, a supporter of his who was ushered in to the room of the Gedolei Hador, for a private consultation, heard the glowing praise that the Gedolei Hador reserve for him. Yesterday, the Gedolei Hador further emphasized the importance of supporting Torah,by participating in his simcha, in rare show of respect.

KNESSET ELECTIONS, AND ALL, THE GEDOLEI HADOR SHLIT”A ARE INVOLVED WITH TORAH STUDY, AND TORAH SUPPORT!!!
WHAT AN HONOR!
what a lucky boy! both Gedolei Hador shlit”a at his bris!
@israelite – (1) ha’kol bi’dei Shomayim, chutz m’yiras Shomayim. (2) Leiv melachim b’yad HaShem. (3) Guess this proves once and for all the Gedolim are not really just involved in politics. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.
Knesset elections are about to happen and since the Gedolei Hador still receive some support from the Country/ State of Israel, it behooves them to instruct their talmidim to vote for candidates that will beholding to Torah values. It would behoove all the Gedolei HaDor to demand a conference of all Gedolim where their demands are laid out so that all candidates can plainly see their positions regarding stipends of religious families, possible discounts, where applicable, on housing, those wishing to serve in the IDF will be guaranteed that they will not be assigned to a mixed unit, there will not be any female singing at any event, kashrut standards will be improved, where possible Shabbat violations will be kept at a minimum. It is the job of a captain to make sure all his men have what they need in order to go into battle, it goes the same for the Gedolei Yisral (Generals) who have to make sure that all religious families are given as much financial support where possible by the government as long as they are seriously learning. The minute they stop, they are required to perform Sheroot Leumi even if it means serving meals to the soldiers in the cheder ochel.
And if he was MAJORondyan would they gave come. Seems money talks……….
Are there any other worthy candidates be it in BB or outside that are allowed to be called gedolei hador? Are these two greats the only ones?
Gerrer Rebbe, Belzer Roov, Boyaner Rebbe, Karliner Rebbe, Slonim, Viznitz, Amshinover Rebbe etc. Are the Roshei Yeshivos of other Mosdos little fry?
I’m surprised!
Regarding question number 4, this is obviously an inexperienced proposal to a complex issue. The origins of Charedi askanus go back to the times of the Tannaim, and have continued through Rishonim, Acharonim, and until the present day Moetzes, which is actually a triple Moetzes, since they are conjoined on the major issues.Never, have all the cards been laid out on the table in public.Somehow, just like hen the Rosh fled Germany and visited the Rashba in Spain, where they found themselves in agreement, because the Torah joins all Jews, so too, today, Chacham Shalom Cohen, the Belzer Rav, and HaGaon Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlit”a, all are in agreement, without involving every nosy noise contributor. Just a few weeks ago, all 3 Moetzes’ had serious consultations around the table of Maran Rosh Hayeshiva shlit”a, and all are comfortable with the way he has skillfully maneuvered the Olam haTorah away from the bittul Torah its enemies have designed. It is with Emunah, Bitachon, and confidence in our Gedolim, who are fulfilling the promise of “Ki lo tishakach mipi zaro” exactly as Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai had interpreted, that we are looking forward to the coming elections, and the new period of bountiful calm that it will, with Hashem’s help, usher in.
Fascinating article and so beautifully written!
I never would have thought that those who boast to having the “country’s premier kollel network” would also be described as “quiet and unassuming” TWICE in the same article!
And I never would have thought it was so “rare” that Gedolei HaDor would demonstrate “respect”!
Thank You!
Yissochor BeOhalecha – great concept. May he, be so matzliach, that he gets, a thousand dollars, a day, for every comma, so generously, sprinkled, throughout, this article.
Mrs. D.:
And a thousand dollars (bli guzma) for every word of hyperbole!
A picture is worth a thousand words (bli guzma). Obviously what is evident in the picture besides the happiness on the face of the baal simcha, is the pure smile on the face of the generations leader, who hears about all of the tzaros haklal and many personal tzaros too.It is clear that the proliferation of kollelim all over Eretz Yisroel which is what this network is all about, can bring a shemira and yeshua to the entire Eretz Yisroel. Perhaps it was in Rabbi Weisbord’s merit that the Knesset voted for regime change yesterday.May we merit the full redemption speedily!

And imagine how quiet and unassuming this organization was to leave that out of the article!
45 commas (bli guzma!)is $45k a day. Since the kollel network has a running budget of $11mil USD, (yes that’s $11,000,000 with 3 commas- bli guzma!)then one thousand dollars per comma per day would actually give a surplus and allow Rabbi Weisbord to open another few kollelim. Actually right now all he needs is $670 per comma per day to maintain the payroll.
These comments have taken it to the next level!!
thanks for putting a smile on my face 🙂
