Eiland: Israel Cannot Go Against Iran Alone

iranh1.jpgIDF Major-General (reserves) Giora Eiland, a former national security advisor, announced on Thursday that Israel does not have the capability to take on Iran alone, stressing Tehran of 2008 is not Iraq of 1981 or Syria of 2007, and at best, an offensive against Iran would result in a delay in Tehran’s nuclear program, but Israel does not have the capability to wiping out the threat. Acting alone he warned is too risky for Israel, explaining we cannot know with absolute certainty that such a mission would be successful and the price would be extremely costly.

Addressing a conference of the, Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University, Eiland warned that any major military move against Iran must enjoy the support and cooperation of the United States, explaining that if we require American approval for a major Gaza operation, it is obvious such support is needed to act against Iran.

Eiland views the summer of 2009 until 2011 as a “limited window of opportunity” and Israel during that time must work towards enlisting the support of the incoming American administration towards maximizing the time period available.

  1. this is from Sun Tzu the art of war rule #1 deceive your enemy if your strong appear weak if your weak appear strong that’s why they put this out, of course they can take them on alone

  2. #3, you may be right about this being deliberate. High ranking military personnel around the globe have studied The Art of War.

  3. As a Jewish American and a former US military member…I would hope that when the time comes to strike at Iran that Israel doesn’t have to do it alone. The problem of a nuclear armed Iran will extend beyond the borders of the Mid-East and action taken against Iran should be with the help of the United States and any of our European (or other) allies with the guts to fight.
