Cabinet Approves Increasing the Participation of Disabled Persons in the Civil Service

bibiThe Cabinet, at its weekly meeting on Sunday 8 Kislev, approved Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s and Civil Service Commissioner Moshe Dayan’s proposal to increase the employment of people with disabilities in the civil service.

According to the proposal disabled persons will receive representation of not lower than 3% of civil service employees by 2017. At that time, the Cabinet will consider gradually raising this rate by additional 2%, to 5% of all civil service employees, by 2019.

The Civil Service Commissioner, in conjunction with the Finance Minister, Economy Minister, Justice Minister and the Equal Opportunity for Disabled Persons Commissioner, will, within 45 days, issue directives regarding the implementation of the decision.

It should be noted that a similar representation has been set for the private sector.

Prime Minister Netanyahu, at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting, said, “This is a socially just law, a humanitarian law of the first order, and it shows the disabled that their disabilities need not prevent them from participating as equal members, and contributing as equals, in the public service of the State of Israel.”
