In a surprise to no one, Time magazine named President-elect Barack Obama its “Person of the Year” for 2008.
The magazine said Obama “has come to dominate the public sphere so completely that it beggars belief to recall that half the people in America had never heard of him two years ago.”
The magazine has named Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Gov. Sarah Palin and Chinese director Zhang Yimou as runners-up.
Last year’s winner was Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Previous individual winners have included Bono, President George W. Bush and Amazon.com CEO and founder Jeff Bezos.

does TIME also believe in all of this CHANGE nonsense?
Being the liberal publication that it is, I’m sure that this won’t be the last time TIME makes Obama the person of the year.
whats so good about him the he is the “person of the year”?

I’m confused. How is Time magazine a “liberal magazine?” Because this year they selected a Democratic politician? Were they a liberal magazine when they selected George W. Bush as person of the year, or was it an off year for them and they were “fair and balanced?”

I’m willing to bet that the article in Time addresses that very question.
#4 – Well said – Time names newsworthy imndividuals as their Person of the Year – Hitler and Stalin both made it (when it was Man of The Year), and were noted for their ruthless evil.
That said – I would give up trying to make sense here. Only my yetzer keeps me commenting here, among so many apparently uneducated people who routinely vilify anybody who disagrees with them, and who see the entire non-frum (dare I say non-chareidi) world being populated only by immoral Jew-hating (Self-hating if they’re Yiddin)monsters.
This article is another indication to me that the YWN has lost track of it’s mission. Ex-Avid Reader
To #4, there is a very well known liberal bias in Time and Newsweek.
From MSNBC(hardly a conservative bastion):
“Time has featured Obama on its cover 14 times since Jan. 1. Newsweek was close behind, featuring the now-president-elect on 12 of its issues. Time has had 52 issues in 2008, so Obama has been featured on more than one-in-four of its covers, or about 27% of the time.
That number, though, goes even higher if you include how many times Obama has appeared in the “skybox” — 11 times.
That means Obama’s face or name has somehow made it onto the cover of Time just about half of the time this year (25 out of 52 issues — 48%)
Newsweek has had 49 issues this year so far (through Dec. 22), so Obama has been featured on about a quarter of its covers as well.
In contrast, the Republican nominee, John McCain, made the cover of Newsweek just four times the entire year, and twice he shared it — once with Obama and once with Sarah Palin. ”
Additionally, Joe Biden has just announced that Time Magazine’s Washington bureau chief Jay Carney has been anounced as the incoming VP’s communication director.

You didn’t mention how often Rudy Guiliani or John Edwards were on the covers of magazines.
Since mainstream media covers popular news, and Obama throughout the campaign was the most popular candidate, it makes perfect sense that he got the most coverage. People wanted to read more about him, and the media responded.
