While the cabinet on Sunday Rosh Chodesh Kislev passed the Jewish Nation Bill, Finance Minister Yair Lapid and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni remain adamantly opposed. They feel the bill is discriminatory against non-Jewish citizens, particularly the large Arab majority.
Lapid explained he is not opposed to the law in principle, but he does oppose the version that passed in the cabinet session. He feels the placing of the Jewish character of the state before the democratic makeup of the state is not acceptable, for he believes the democratic value is the supreme value, superseding the Jewish character of the nation.
Lapid told a Tel Aviv University audience with confidence that David Ben-Gurion, Menachem Begin or Ze’ev Jabotinsky would not have passed the bill. Livni appears adamant in her opposition as well and their parties, Yesh Atid and The Movement do not appear inclined to back the bill in Wednesday’s (4 Kislev) vote, which could mark the end of the current coalition.
There are various versions of the bill and if Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and supporters of the bill are willing to accept any of the versions that place less of an emphasis on the Jewish character of the state, a coalition crisis may be averted.

this law should be supported and rammed down his throat.
Menachem Begin would have supported this bill.
Whatever reluctance he had to start up with the supreme court of his era,was because the Court was a reclusive uninterfering body in those days,enfeebled by previous Labor governments.
Ze’ev Jabotinsky probably would have also suppported it by his last days.
The charedim ought to support this bill or they deserve all the abuse they receive
