Saudi businessman Muhmad Hassan Mahafa is offering $10 million for the “shoes of freedom” as he calls them, referring to the shoes thrown at President George W. Bush by Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi during a press conference between Bush and the Iraqi president.
Mahafa explains that he prefers to buy the shoes than to than to leave millions to his six children. “I am not doing this for business, but for the honor of the Arab world” he told reporters.
YWN reported the story of the shoe-throwing incident on Sunday. The president responded quickly and avoid being struck.
Al-Zaidi was praised and enjoys the support of her employer, who runs the Al-Baghdadia channel which broadcasts from Cairo.
