After months of a continued escalation of Arab violence and terrorist attacks, police have once again brought in additional manpower and have set up roadblocks and checkpoints at entrances to Arab areas of the capital. Police are conducting a ‘stop & frisk’ policy on any Arab who appears suspicious for whatever reason. In addition, spot inspections of residents leaving the Arab areas are being inspected.
The approval has also been given to place security guards at 200 kindergartens in the city, most along the seamline between Arab and Jewish neighborhoods in the hope if adding to the police deterrence in those areas. This includes but is not limited to kindergartens in Armon HaNatziv, Pisgat Ze’ev, and French Hill.
The increased police presence since the Har Nof shul massacre however has not deterred Islamic radicals as police are being confronted by Arab mobs in the areas mentioned above as well as other areas of the city with fireworks, firebombs, stone and anything that can be hurled at them. The Jerusalem light rail continues to be attacked daily as are buses operating in the city.
