A young man was walking down Carroll Street between Kingston and Albany when two thugs jumped him from behind. One perpetrator placed him in the a chokehold while yelling instructions to his partner, saying “take his wallet, take his cell phone”. The victim could not breath and let them take his belongings without putting up a fight.

After robbing their victim, the duo took off running toward Kingston Avenue. Moments later, the victim regained his breath and began chasing his attackers screaming “Chaptzem”. One passerby heard the screams for help and immediately tackled the perpetrator who was passing in front of him. The Stolen Cell phone and wallet were recovered. A group gathered around but while they were waiting for the police to arrive, the perpetrator gave them the slip and began running up Kingston Avenue and made a right onto President Street with a group of locals hot on his tail.

At that point the Shmira hotline received multiple calls from passersby about the commotion. As Shmira Members responded to the location a suspect matching the description was spotted on President Street near Troy Avenue. When Shmira members attempted to question the suspect he took off running. Shmira members chased and cornered him in front of 1629 Union Street between Troy and Schenectady Avenues. Police drove the victim to where the perpetrator was being held and after the victim positively identified the suspect as one of his attackers, he was placed under arrest and is being charged with robbery.

The Second Perpetrator is a male black in his low to mid twenties, slim build, short hair and was wearing a grey and white pinstriped sweater at the time of the robbery. He had fled in the opposite direction on President Street and made a left down Brooklyn Avenue and is still at large as of the publishing of this article.
