The New York City sanitation department has issued a snow alert starting at 8 p.m. Thursday.
The National Weather Service expects rain on Thursday night, followed by a little snow after 1 a.m. Friday.
The Weather Service predicts the overnight low in the city and on Long Island will be a couple of degrees above freezing.
It could dip just below freezing in the northern suburbs.
If there’s snow on Friday morning, it should be over by around 9 a.m.
City workers will be loading salt spreaders, attaching plows if necessary, preparing tire chains and notifying extra personnel as needed.
Sanitation is coordinating with the Office of Emergency Management and transportation department.
