Talmidim of dati leumi yeshivot around Israel are pained and upset over the harsh remarks released by Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita regarding visiting Har Habayis and dati leumi rabbonim and poskim that permit doing so.
The rav attacked the dati leumi rabbonim who permit ascending to Har Habayis in is hesped on erev Shabbos for terror Shalom Aaron Ba’adani HY”D. The Rishon L’Tzion referred to these rabbonim as “third rate who do not have the right to go against Gedolei Yisrael”.
A letter was sent to Rav Yosef’s office which cites there have bene gedolim who have permitted ascending to Har Habayis, quoting Rabbi Shlomo Goren Z”L, a former Chief Rabbi of Israel. The talmidim add that today, Kiryat Arba Chief Rabbi Dov Lior Shlita is among the prominent rabbonim giving a heter to ascend to Har Habayis if one prepares oneself as required by halacha. Other rabbonim mentioned include Rabbi Nachum Eliezer Rabinowitz Shlita, Rabbi Tzefanya Drori Shlita, Rabbi Meir Nissim Mazuz Shlita, and Rabbi Shar Yashuv Cohen Shlita.
“We come in the name of the thousands of bnei yeshivot who are immersed in Torah and the gedolim mentioned are our rabbonim from whose springs we quench our thirst. With all due respect, we do not question the rav’s psak halacha…but we express feelings of shock, horror and vigorous protest at the assault of their dignity and Kovod Hatorah. Perhaps due to the heartache the words did not come out as intended, and if this is so, it would be appropriate that a clarification is released after the fact from the rav’s office. It is unacceptable that we, who view the Chief Rabbinate as the flag that remains perched in front of the camp and the chief rabbi is given the title of Ateret Rosheinu – that we can remain silent in light of the statements release against the elders of our rabbonim”.

They are so ignorant it’s sad. I just hope that they realize they have to retract their request before it’s too late for them. You don’t mess with these Gaonim.
How coincidental that the only “rabbi im” whose eyes have been enlightened to find a heter for this are all avowed tzionim……and at their helm non other than the parachuting, shofar tooting circus master goren himself.
There are ways of saying things. It’s a shame that the original comments (& even the explanation) weren’t expressed with more respect & sensitivity. Before you all start screaming, remember this: disagreeing with the WORDS USED does not mean disagreeing with the message. I hope all this blows over, we have bigger & more tragic things to worry about, regardless of who or what is perceived as the cause. We need to focus on achdut right now. OK, yell away.
These kids seem right — it’s pretty disgusting for anyone, and certainly R’ Yitzchak Yosef to go around calling tremendous talmidei chachamim and poskim “third rate”. How would he rate himself? Totally disgusting, and at a levaya no less.
I just wonder how did it happen that exactly all the zionist Rabbonim saw nothing hlachically wrong, and all the Robbonim who aren’t zionist saw it as very wrong. Think about it…
Same with Shmitah etc.
Kol HaKavod to these Talmidim. They were Moche for the Kavod of their Rabe’im, while not being Poge’a in the Kavod of Rav Yosef.

MDshweks – I am aware of several Chareidi Rabbonim who are Matir going on the Har HaBayis so long as one prepares properly, though they don’t necessarily publicize their positions widely. One is one of the main authors of Artscroll’s perush on Talmud Yerushalmi, and the Rav of the largest Anglo-Chareidi Shul in Ramat Beit Shemesh.

MDshweks- this is completly wrong. I know many Zionist and modern poskim who assur going on Har Habayis and I know many zionist and modern poskim who are against heter mechira.
“Elu, v’elu divrei Elokim Chaim.” There are, quietly, a number of Chareidi Poskim who permit it. It’s not good to have publicly degrading treatment of Torah law! They are acting on established Poskim, not inventing new laws from moral treatises on philosophy. Pesulei Beis Shammai….
How far is it necessary to stir up machloket! Yerovam Ben Navat had criticism for King Shlomo, but was chayav misa for stating it publicly. Be careful and ask a Rabbi, even if he’s tzioni.

So it’s an anarchic free-for-all up to any college kid who pontificates?
And it’s justifiable for those who wrap themselves in high falutin’ titles to be given equal weight?
computerbubby,
it’s surely more enjoyable for everyone “to just get along”
But who the instigators?
We’re tring to be moreh to the nevuchim
we have bigger & more tragic things to worry about?
We want to bring moshaich closer for betterment of all, while others are pulling the other way
