Chief Sephardi Rabbi of Haifa Rabbi Shlomo Shalush ZT”L, 74, was niftar on Wednesday morning 12 Marcheshvan. The rav was admitted to Carmel Hospital last week in serious condition.
The rav studied in Yeshivas Chevron where he received semicha. He later received semicha for dayanus from Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L. He then served as a rav of a shul in the Kiryat Yovel neighborhood of Yerushalayim as well as a rebbe in Yeshivas Kol HaKotel.
In 5736 he was appointed as a dayan in Haifa, compelling him to move to the northern city. In 5753, coinciding with the appointment of Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron as Rishon L’Tzion, Rav Shalush was elected the Chief Sephardi Rabbi of Haifa, serving until his petira.
The levaya began at noon from the rav’s home on Geula Street in Haifa via Yeshivas Morasha and then kvura in Bnei Brak in the Ponevezh Beis Hachaim.
