Cory Booker Wins U.S. Senate Seat for New Jersey

bookNew Jersey Democrat Cory Booker has handily won his first re-election bid to the U.S. Senate a year after taking the seat in a special election.

The former Newark mayor defeated GOP challenger Jeff Bell, a conservative with low name recognition whose signature issue was backing the dollar with a gold standard.

The 45-year-old Booker focused his campaign on bipartisanship, highlighting his work with Republicans in Washington in cable TV ads.

Booker won a special election last year for the seat that was vacated by the death of Democratic U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
