Speaking with the media present at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert labeled last week’s Jewish resistance and violence in Chevron a “pogrom”.
He explained that his statement follows much thought on the events which transpired last Thursday, deploring the violence by Jews in the city, stating their attacks against Arabs was unacceptable and can only be described as a “pogrom”. The prime minister added he is ashamed as a Jew, further stating he has instructed the defense minister to do whatever necessary to bring an end to such a phenomenon using all means at his disposal to halt such occurrences in areas under Israeli control.
