Hospital officials say a New York doctor who became infected with Ebola while treating patients in Guinea is awake and communicating and is experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms.
The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation said Saturday that Dr. Craig Spencer “is entering the next phase of his illness.”
The agency runs Bellevue Hospital Center, where Spencer was taken Thursday.
HHC said Spencer is receiving antiviral therapy as well as plasma therapy. The therapies have been used to treat Ebola patients at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Spencer’s is the only confirmed Ebola case in New York.
His case prompted the governors of New York and New Jersey to declare a mandatory quarantine for travelers who have been exposed to Ebola in West Africa.

May he have a refuah shleimah and may nobody he has been in contact with develop this disease.
Perhaps those who are returning from treating Ebola patients should be quarantined for 21 days, until its known theyre Ebola-free. and prevented from infecting others in the USA.
It takes 21 days to know if someone is infected with Ebola.
The potential damage if steps like these arent taken, is far worse.
These medical workers gave of themselves treating Ebola patients, thus helping OUR country, (if chas vesholom something like that would happen here, we need the experience from doctors and nurses the actually worked with the sick…)
Now upon their return, they should continue helping our country, and the “least” they can do is be EXTRA careful for an additional 21 days and stay in quarantine or whatever is recommended as the “absolute safest”!!!
