New York residents who asked for an extension to file their state income tax returns face a filing deadline Wednesday.
State tax officials say that of the 740,000 taxpayers who requested an extension, 400,000 have yet to file. They have until Oct. 15.
State tax officials say electronic filing can make the process faster and easier.
New York will process almost 11 million personal income tax returns this year.

Your headline is misleading, the return is not considered “LATE” until after 10/15. There really isn’t a deadline for “late” returns.
