The White House says President Barack Obama has met with the retired Secret Service agent who is leading the agency until a new director is named.
Obama spokesman Josh Earnest says the president and Joe Clancy met Tuesday in the Oval Office.
Clancy most recently was head of the agency’s Presidential Protective Division and was the lead agent on Obama’s security detail.
Tuesday was Clancy’s second day on the job and Obama thanked him for returning to service after Julia Pierson’s resignation last week. Pierson stepped down following multiple breaches of security around Obama and at the White House.
The Department of Homeland Security announced an independent review of the agency’s operations.
Earnest, the White House spokesman, says an announcement about the panel members could come later this week.
