Go Figure – Indictment May Not Sink GOP’s Grimm

grimA 20-count federal indictment and threatening to toss a reporter off a balcony might disqualify a congressmen in a bid for a third term.

Not in feisty Staten Island and a stretch of Brooklyn, where defiant voters are standing by pugnacious Republican Michael Grimm.

They’re dismissing the actions at the heart of his legal woes — charges of tax evasion, fraud, cash payments to illegal workers at a Manhattan restaurant — as unsavory but typical in New York.

Grimm’s a former Marine and ex-FBI agent in a tight election fight against Democrat Domenic Recchia, a former New York City councilman who says Grimm is ineffective.

But Grimm’s constituency shrugs off the indictments and the tough talk. Grimm says his style helps him stick up for Staten Island.

  1. Republicans are quite aggressive in attacking Andrew Cuomo’s alleged corruption, but they ignore Grimm, who has actually been indicted?

  2. What’s the Chiddush here? The twice indicted State Senator John Sampson, a “DEMOCRAT”, easily won reelection even though his opponent was endorsed by Governor Coumo & Deputy Mayor DeBlasio! What Sampson “allegedly” did is a lot worse than what they claim Grimm has done.

  3. Not getting involved,

The Democrats expelled Sampson from the Democratic Caucus of the New York Senate and did not help him in his re-election campaign. Grimm is still a member in good standing of the Republican Caucus of the US House of Representatives, and the party is going all-in to keep him in office.

  4. Charlie:
So how did Sampson win (wink wink)? Are you saying all the voters who did their duty and went out and voted for Sampson because he represents them are crazy and should be sent to their corner? Isn’t it still a free Country & voters can vote for whomever they want to & don’t have to take their cue from some paid talking head moron?
