Jerusalem: 2-Year-Old Forgotten on a Bus

egednnA 2-year-old child was forgotten on a Jerusalem bus on Thursday morning 8 Tishrei. When the driver conducted a sweep of the bus after completing his route he found the toddler on board, alone.

The driver summoned police. The child’s father arrived at the last stop a short time later. He explained that moments after getting off the bus he realized the child was still on board. Aware there were only a few stops until the end of the line he headed quickly to the last stop.

The father was questioned by police and social services have been informed of the incident.

Police on Thursday afternoon announced no criminal charges would be filed against the father. Officials explain that after speaking to the father they learned he took two other children off the bus and when he turned around to get the stroller, the bus pulled out. The father phoned Egged and the police dispatcher and he was told the child was okay and instructed to head to the last stop.

  1. It is offensive that social services was even notified.
Where were all the people who usually yell at the driver to wait?
People must all be too occupied or no one else was on the bus.
The poor father was overwhelmed that’s all.
Drivers should be encouraged to check that those who are transporting several children have enough time to exit.

  2. As a visitor to Eretz Yisroel, I am always afraid I won’t be able to get off the bus at my stop. There is always a crowd at the door and I hate to yell “nahag, nahag”. I don’t know how these Israelis do it with even one child and a stroller, let alone three children. It definitely wasn’t the father’s fault. Travelling on a Fri. afternoon is nerve wracking. The aisles are wall to wall suitcases and strollers and it is very difficult to get on or off the bus or to walk to the back of the bus. One Fri. afternoon when I was travelling a chiloni was hollering about the chareidim because they hog the bus.

  3. Thank GD this happened in our holy land, Israel. At least Egged & bus driver will watch over the child till parent arrives.
