MK Ze’ev Moving to Bet HaShalom

The residents of Chevron’s Bet Shalom have until Wednesday morning to leave the multi-structure building as per the Supreme Court ruling of Sunday. On Monday night, Shas MK Nissim Ze’ev, a Yerushalayim resident, moved to the home together with two of his 11 children. Ze’ev also plans to set up his parliamentary office in the building to send a resounding message to the High Court and supporters of the decision.

Many supporters are making their way to Chevron in the hope of making Bet HaShalom their new residence, ahead of what will most likely become the stage of the next major confrontation between residents and supporters and security authorities. A number of prominent people have already called on the masses to head for Chevron, signaling there are no plans to voluntarily comply with the High Court’s order to leave the building which was legally purchased.

Many in the frum community cannot help but to point out the irony, that on the week that we read Chayei Sarah and speak of our rights to Chevron after Avraham purchased his plot of land, the State of Israel’s Supreme Court takes the side of a lone Arab who insists the building was not purchased legally, ordering some 70 people out of their home, unwilling to examine the documents presented by the Chevron community attesting to the validity of the sale.
