NYS Law Enforcement Launches Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign

nysp.jpgLaw enforcement agencies across New York state are launching a seat belt enforcement campaign timed to the start of the “holiday season”.

State police, sheriff’s departments and local police agencies started the two-week, zero-tolerance enforcement effort Monday. The campaign will continue through Nov. 30.

Officials say troopers, deputies and officers will be conducting safety restraint checkpoints throughout the 14-day period.

During last year’s “Buckle Up New York” campaign, police issued more than 45,000 tickets for seat belt violations, including nearly 3,000 written by Troop T, the state police section that patrols the 570-mile-long Thruway system.

  1. Could anybody tell me what the traffic agents are looking for every morning on Ave J Corner E.12?
They set up cones and have several agents pulling over some cars. Could it be seat belts? I don’t think they have the authority for this.

  2. Thank you NY!
    It’s about time!

It’s a no brainer to wear a seatbelt while driving a vehicle.

To those of you who think it’s impeding on your “rights.” Here’s a little information that may help you to understand the importance of wearing a seatbelt:
YOU not wearing a seat belt can injure or kill the people in your car &/or the people outside your car as your body bangs around the inside of the car &/or flies out the front window.

Buckle up people! And, make sure your child is in proper restraints.

  3. Is it not amazing how altruistic the government gets in hard economic times? Perfect timing. Now maybe they won’t have to charge tolls on the East River bridges. 🙂

    They set up cones…..

BLOCKING THE BOX ARE THE TICKETS BEING ISSUED AT AVE J AND E 12 ST.

POLICE CHECKPOINTS WILL BE AT THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

CONEY ISLAND AVE I TO P
    AVE J CONEY TO AVE J E 16 ST
    Belt pky FLATBUSH AVE
FLATBUSH AVE N&S BOUND LANES AT KINGS PLAZA
    BELT PKWY ERSKINE STREET

    VEREZANO BRIDGE
(GO MORE THAN 50 MPH YOU WILL GET A TICKET PERIOD)

There are many more locations but i will not give it out. It’s been four years since the NYPD started a major enforcement of seatbelts and cell phones and at this point if you still get pulled over for these two offenses you deserve the ticket for not caring about yourself, the law and other drivers.

  5. This is a good start. How about enforcing stopping at stop signs, not darting out halfway into the highway waiting for your turn to cross over, actually using a blinker to make even a last-second turn, and not using the bumper of cars to bump into the OTHER car as a way to measure how close one is to the other car, and most of all, not contributing to multi-colored bumpers of your neighbors car that look like color strips from the local paint store. There..I got my rant out.
