Likud officials are still waiting for a response from former IDF chief of staff Moshe Ya’alon, who they hope will announce his move to the party in the coming days.
On Sunday it was learned that Ya’alon may also be contemplating another offer, to head the right-wing bloc, the yet nameless party which consists of National Union and the National Religious Party. The offer according to reports would entail Ya’alon automatically heading the right-wing bloc, without primary elections.
A response from the former senior military commander is expected in the coming days. For Likud, opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu remains optimistic, aware of the popularity of Ya’alon, who was compelled to step down as chief of staff when then defense minister, Shaul Mofaz, refused to extend his term due to his adamant objections to the disengagement plan.
