Southern district police working with elite border police units over the weekend were successful in apprehending 82 kilograms (180.5 lbs) or heroin, valued as $12 million. The bust represents the largest ever in Israel.
The chief suspect in the drug ring is Faraj Hilmatel, a former IDF officer of the rank of major.
Acting on credible intelligence information, police over Shabbos were engaged in a stakeout along the Jordanian border, with police stating two main suspects have been under surveillance for weeks, using advanced methods that permitted the surveillance without detection.

This is wonderful news because sadly most of this heroin would have ended up in the bodies of American post-high school students who’s parents think they’re sending them to Israel for a year of Torah.
The police involved in this bust have saved numerous lives by taking it off the streets.
