The Israel Navy’s fourth Dolphin submarine, which was constructed by Germany, has left that country for Israel. Navy commander Admiral Ram Rothenberg told the press that the submarine was heading to Israel to join the fleet and it will be anchored in the military base at the Port of Haifa. The admiral made his remarks at a ceremony at the base attended by Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.
Rothenberg explains this model will be capable of remaining submerged deeper and longer than its predecessors. He added the vessel has capabilities previously unseen in the Israel Navy; warning Israel’s enemies “don’t make a mistake and attack again for the State of Israel will respond mightily…”
Both the admiral and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz spoke of the IDF’s capabilities of striking near and far and that different branches of the service did so during Operation Protective Edge.

Could someone explain the strategic value to EY of investing in submarines given the threats they are vulnerable to?
