Two hundred Israeli vacationers enjoying time abroad was faced with a dilemma when the crew of Italy’s Meridiana Air Lines refused to spend time in Israel.
The flight departed from Milano on erev Shabbos 3 Elul, headed for Ben-Gurion International Airport. The plane however did an about face after the crew refused to remain in Israel. As a result, the Israeli passengers were stranded in Italy for an additional day, Shabbos.
The decision to turn around was made while flying over Greece. It is reported the crew learned that in Israel, they must pay an additional surcharge for remaining over night. The stranded passengers were placed in hotels near the airport. They headed home on motzei Shabbos.
Passengers explain the airlines ruined their vacation and they will be seeking compensation. It is added that the airline only had one bus on hand to transport the group of 200.

There must be more to this story. Meridiana has been flying between Milan and Tel Aviv for while.
