Netanyahu’s Decision Leaves Some Ministers Angered

bibyWhile there may be a ceasefire with Hamas all is not quiet among cabinet members. Some are angered over the fact that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu decided to accept a ceasefire without consulting with members of his government or Security Cabinet. Some feel it is obvious the prime minister feared he would not have a mustered a majority among his minister for the ceasefire initiative, hence he decided to act on his own. Shortly after Israel announced the ceasefire Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Naftali Bennett, and Gilad Erdan expressed their opposition to the prime minister’s decision.

Minister Uri Ariel told the media later in the evening that any agreement that does not include eliminating the Hamas threat and the demilitarization of Gaza is only a half complete agreement. Ariel fears the next round of warfare with Hamas will not be too far in the future.

As the rocket fire has halted the cabinet will convene and the insubordinates will want to be heard for they do not seem willing to permit the act to pass without taking some type of action. The situation may lead to a coalition crisis as clearly tensions are running high in the cabinet. The prime minister during Operation Protective Edge lashed out at ministers for speaking out publically against cabinet policy. His anger was directed at Bennett and Lieberman, who openly spoke out against decision reached by the Security Cabinet forum. Much may depend on what position Yesh Atid leader Minister Yair Lapid takes, for he too called for a decisive military victory. Many feel that Minister Tzipi Livni, who heads The Movement party, may also not have supported the ceasefire for she told the media she did not favor a temporary ceasefire arrangement.

For now Mr. Netanyahu remains silent but it is only a matter of time until ministers begin airing their criticism of the prime minister’s handling of Operation Protective Edge in the media.

  1. Time to topple his gov and get new leader who will complete the job — Gain complete peace and quiet to all Israeli civilians…

  2. At the rate Israel is fighting the war, by taking revenge at empty buildings and empty tunnels, there’s no reason Netanyahu shouldn’t accept a ceasefire and please her supporters in the US.

It’s not as if Israel is out to get rid of her enemies. The army is making believe they’re fighting but all they’re doing is making lots of smoke while they get rid of the enemies’ possessions. With this attitude Israel lost the war before they even started and there’s no way Israel can ever win and the enemies can ever be defeated.

  3. I’m not the one to speak on this matter because I don’t fully comprehend all the issues that had to be considered however the fact that he acted without his coalition partners seems wrong. Also, to me it seems that these issues should not published for the masses quite yet – people’s lives are at stake, it seems to me!

  4. Hey, why not? After all, Netanyahu has a pen and a phone, just like our esteemed President. I wonder if the title “President” has morphed into “Fuhrer”.

  5. Is this what fear does to people..?! It’s true E”Y is in a scary predicamen! But why are we in it to begin with? Isn’t it there as a ‘wake up’ call for us, to remind us to improve ourselves? By putting down people, who go beyond the call of duty, trying to help us; we’re not achieving anything! It’s not Netanyahu’s fault were in this mess, it’s ours! And we should try to correct it by Teffilla, and avoid saying lashon hara!
