US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is back in Israel to push the outgoing administration towards a deal with the PA (Palestinian Authority) before President George W. Bush steps down from office.
She began her regional talks with Kadima leader Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. The meeting was held in the Herzliya home of US Ambassador James B. Cunningham.
Livni stated Israel will not compromise on issues of extremist Islamic elements such as Hamas, Hizbullah and Iran, stating that the country is realistic regarding the process of reaching a peace agreement with Israel’s neighbors, adding she remains optimistic towards such a reality in the future.
Both Rice and the ambassador hailed the American elections, with Rice stating the election of an African American as president was indeed a watershed in American history.
The secretary of state added that she does not believe it is likely that an agreement between Israel and the PA will be signed before the end of 2008 as was hoped. She will be meeting with senior Israeli and PA officials during her visit to the region, her eighth as secretary of state.

They should talk with her in the South, just North of Gaza
Drop it Rice and start packing. Israel is not interested in dividing Jerusalem, as you tried in Bethesda, or in giving away stuff to those who murder, in the coldest of blood, it’s citizens. Would you?
