Jerusalem District Court President Justice David Cheshin intercepted funding for chareidi yeshivos located in an area near the Ramat Sharret neighborhood of the capital, with the court expressing harsh criticism against Mayor Nir Barkat.
Jerusalem City Hall about six months ago allocated funding for three yeshivos, Ateret Yisrael, Mishkan Chaim and Maoz Chil.
Opposing the allocations, attorney Yossi Chavilov filed his objections with the Jerusalem District Court, resulting in the court blocking the funding and admonishing the mayor and his administration.
The court feels the city acted inappropriately, bypassing the city’s Finance Committee and the city council. The court points out the city has been acting against Ministry of the Interior directives for over a decade by allocating land without an appropriate program. It adds if the city lacks a proper plan then it should/must turn to the ministry for assistance and guidance.
The court also ordered the city to pay all legal costs involved in the appeal filed by Chavilov.

It’s sad that Cheshin himself who learned in a Yeshiva and today looks like other Zionist shkatzim is the one to cut funding for yeshivos.
Cheshin, whose brothers are all Talmidei Chachamim, related
during the Shiv’a of his father, that growing up poor (which it seems he took for ineptness)combined with the Army propaganda and ‘laisons’ drove him (and multitudes of his Sha’arei Chesed friends)away from yiddishkeit…to the other side
One of his brothers told my father that(though they personally remain on good terms) they daven that their brother’s schemes fail
#2 In the ’60’s and 70’s, parts of the infantry officers corp. were an Etz Chaim “old boys club”
He will pay
What the city was doing was illegal. They need to run the funding through the city council, like they would with any other spending. The people who were elected to decide what gets spent (the city council) should not be bypassed.
What they were doing is vaguely like davening from a stolen siddur. They were violating the law in order to fund the yeshivas.
