Netanel Maimon was in Gaza during the first part of Operation Protective Edge. The 22-year-old Gan Yavne resident was discharged from the fighting. On Friday, 26 Menachem Av, he was driving with his brother to buy cigarettes during the evening hours when a siren wailed in Gan Yavne. Netanel’s vehicle was hit and he is listed in critical condition as doctors continue fighting to save his life. He was hit with a large piece of shrapnel. His brother Tamir was lightly wounded. Three others in the vehicle were no wounded.
All of the occupants of the vehicle did as they should. They stopped the vehicle and got out but the grad katyusha rocket landed seconds later. Netanel was still getting out as the rocket exploded, and he was hit in the head with shrapnel.
Netanel was transported to Kaplan in Rehovot and after he was stabilized, he was moved to Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikvah.
In rocket attacks into Beersheva on motzei Shabbos, a number of people sustained light injuries including a 70-year-old male in a wheelchair. He and his wife were injured by glass shards, B’chasdei Hashem not seriously.
