Felder Says No to Property Tax Hike

felder1.jpgCouncilman Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) has spoken out against Mayor Bloomberg’s proposal to eliminate both the 7% property tax break put in place last year and this year’s $400 property tax rebate for homeowners. He got twenty of his colleagues to sign onto a letter addressed to the Mayor voicing opposition to any property tax hike.

“No one is disputing that the City faces tough economic times. Homeowners are experiencing this economic downturn firsthand,” said Felder. “It is not right to turn to homeowners at a time when many are struggling to make ends meet. We must be responsible and do more with less.”

  1. oh, and that was Felder who voted to extend term limits, wasn’t it — despite the fact that the VOTERS of NY City TWICE said that two terms are enough.

  2. #3, it doesn’t matter what he voted on years ago, we are in different times today. and as of the times we’re living in today, when people are told the check will be in the mail in October, he can’t come in november and say, woops, sorry!, can’t afford it!

  3. So the money should come from where exactly?

Something, somewhere is going to be increased, there is nothing we can do about that. Since Mr. Felder led the efforts and voted to extend his own job (pitifully unethical) it’s now his and his colleagues’ responsibility to figure it out.

But just know, no matter where you increase it people are going to get mad.

  4. I wish I lived in NYC. Over in Joisey, raising taxes is a given, every year. And 7%? I can’t remember EVER seeing that low an increase. Oy….

My property tax payments became bigger than my mortgage payments 4 years after I moved into my house, and now are 6 times as high.
