Seeking to allay the fears of residents of Gaza border communities, IDF officials announced the access points to what is believed to be additional terror tunnels leading to Gaza discovered earlier in the week are not a threat.
The report states that soldiers from the Engineering Corps were dispatched and after entering the access points and checking out the situation thoroughly, officials’ state there is no tunnel connecting from that area. The shafts have since been filled in by the IDF.
Residents were alarmed when the discovery was made, as the shafts were about 100 meters from homes and a kindergarten. Military officials insist the shafts were just that and they did not connect to any underground tunnel. As a result, the soldiers stationed near them have been released once it was determined the shafts do not pose a threat.
