A serious car crash on Route 17 westbound brought traffic to a standstill as a chopper was called to the scene. Hatzolah from Kiryas Yoel and Catskills along with local emergency personnel responded to the scene around 3:30PM Monday. The crash – which involved an overturned vehicle – happened between exits 128 – 129.
A chopper was called to airlift the occupant of the overturned vehicle to a trauma center. The chopper landed on the median of the highway, as traffic was closed in both directions. The Fire Department was needed to extricate the victim who was trapped inside the vehicle.
State Police said only one lane would be open for hours while the rescue and investigation continues.
